Dean Wilson will miss the remainder of the 2026 SuperMotocross World Championship Playoffs after suffering a broken shoulder in a practice crash Tuesday.
The Quad Lock Honda rider was preparing for this weekend’s second SMX Playoff round in Carson, California, when a chain derailment sent him violently over the handlebars after he tripled onto a tabletop. Wilson was transported to the hospital following the crash and is scheduled to see a specialist Friday to determine the severity of the injury and establish a recovery timeline.
Wilson, who is competing in the SMX Playoffs as a Wild Card rider, had a difficult opening round in Columbus last weekend. He was unable to transfer from the 450SMX Wild Card race and did not compete in the afternoon points-paying motos.
The injury is particularly disappointing given Wilson’s recent success overseas. Wilson finished on the podium at the opening round of the 2026 FIM World Supercross Championship in Calgary and currently sits second in the championship standings. He was also preparing to defend his AUS-X Supercross SX1 title when that series begins October 3 in Townsville, Australia.
“I’m gutted as I felt like I was in a good spot and sitting second in WSX and was looking forward to AUS-X,” Wilson said in a statement shared on social media. “But we will see how it goes.”
