Chaos ensued at Jackhammer with co-drivers winching everywhere to get up the obstacle[\/caption]\r\n\r\nAt least Eighty-Six competitors started the race of Kings. By the time the leaders got to Jackhammer, about three hours into the race, it was an all-out battle to blast through the rocks. Loren Healy and second place qualifier Darian Gomez fought for positions in the rocks, with Healy making a pass for the lead. This year KOH officials threw a most-difficult mystery third lap at the racers on Friday night. There was no opportunity to pre-run or get a sneak peak at the section before running it on course during the race. Tad Dowker had the physical lead going into the third lap. Dowker rolled on course allowing Healy to recapture the lead. The third lap featured some of the most difficult rock sections, severely slowing down the competitors.\r\n\r\n[caption id=\"attachment_15009\" align=\"alignnone\" width=\"640\"]![\"\"](\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026-King-of-the-Hammers_Healy-1024x683.jpg\")
Loren Healy gained the lead several times, but ultimately get sidelined on lap 3 with a broken transmission.[\/caption]\r\n\r\nA flat tire would cause Healy to get hung up on a hill allowing top qualifier Paul Wolff to make a pass for the lead. Wolff then went down with steering issues. Healy blew a transmission. Out of the complete darkness, Randy Slawson emerged out of nowhere to win the King of the Hammers. Slawson is now the only driver to secure four wins and has raced all twenty events. At the finish line, Slawson didn\u2019t have much to say at the finish line and was still in disbelief of his win. \r\n\r\nThe King of the Hammers UTV race delivered one of the wildest battles the class has ever seen, a day defined by heavy attrition, constant position changes, and an unlikely hero standing tallest at the end. From the drop of the green flag, the pace was brutal and the race turned into survival mode almost immediately. Paul Wolff and Phil Blurton, both pre-race favorites, saw their days end in stunning fashion with major crashes within the first five miles. Kyle Chaney, in the mix early, suffered a flat tire on Lap 1 that cost him valuable time. They battled traffic jams in the rocks, fought through bottlenecks, and resisted the temptation to overdrive the car.\r\n
\u201cI am honestly speechless,\u201d Martin said after the finish. \u201cWe hit a lot of traffic and bottlenecks, and Dave, my co-driver, was incredible all day. Once we got through the chaos, we focused on driving smart and keeping the car together. With that long desert run at the end, we knew we couldn\u2019t afford to hurt the car. When things opened up, we pushed as hard as we could and brought it home.\"<\/p>\r\n

Raul has two back-to-back wins at the King of the Hammers. JP also won in 2024. \u00a0All of the brothers are highly competitive. Scherer also a former King will be one to watch this year. There will be over 85 4400 vehicles racing on Saturday morning in the coveted Race of Kings event with less than half of the field actually finishing the event. To add to the drama, a mystery third lap will be thrown at the racers. Cody Young finished second overall and first in his class competing against Turner-Slawson in the Legends class. Brad Lovell was driving a Bronco in the 4600-stock class. On the second lap, Lovell passed Bailey Cole in the rocks just below Chocolate Thunder and continued his charge towards the checkered flag. \u201cI can\u2019t tell you how thrilled I am to be here in the Ford Bronco at the finish line, it was dusty, it was intense,\u201d Lovell said in a finish line interview after the race. Overall, 120 cars went off the start line with most of the field unable to finish the race. Kyle Chaney secured a historic win at the Race of Kings beating out all of the Ultra4 cars to victory in a CanAm UTV.[\/caption]\r\n\r\n\u201cWe had a good car last year, this year we put a lot of effort into this race. To come out here and win, it was awesome,\u201d said Chaney. Co-driver Terry Madden helped Chaney out on the rock trails. Both have extensive experience at the Hammers. Like Chaney, Madden has never gotten a win in the King of the Hammers premiere class. Paul Wolff passes Loren Healy in the rocks at Jackhammer.[\/caption]\r\n\r\nThe day was drama filled at the Race of Kings. Paul Wolff started out front after securing the top qualifying spot. Loren Healy quickly took command of the race in the desert loop but struggled when he got to Jack Hammer. Wolff re-took the lead as Healy went down with mechanical issues and was forced to withdraw. Former king JP Gomez found himself in the lead on lap 3 but was passed by Josh Blyler. JP then had to stop and get out to change a tire. Up ahead Blyler was down with mechanical issues. Both he and his co-driver were out of the car attempting repairs. As both of those drivers were stopped on course near Kings Vito, Chaney took over the lead and never looked back. It didn\u2019t take long for Heger to take control of the race and drive to victory. \u00a0Heger\u2019s time on course was 3-hours, 57-minutes on course. \u201cWhat a cool way to finish out Hammers, this is something I have never won, it\u2019s been a longtime coming for Polaris,\u201d said Heger. Healy began lapping a few vehicles in the field taking the checkered flag victory. Healy started mid-pack with Shannon Campbell leading the charge. These garage-built vehicles still put up some decent horsepower as they gave a packed crowd of fans a show in the rocks.
