The 450 class features a stacked talent pool and it could be anyone\u2019s game. Riders spoke during a press conference at the venue it was clear they were fired up and ready for the season. It was also the first time they got time to ride the track since last year.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nEli Tomac is back after a heartbreaking season ending injury. Tomac was leading the series with just two weekends to go before he landed wrong and injured his Achilles tendon. Tomac spent the next several months focusing on recovery. He was back on the bike in the off-season testing. Chase Sexton has a whole new team, riding for Red Bull KTM. \u201cI am ready for the challenge and I am a much different person now,\u201d says Sexton.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nAlso, Ken Roczen is back for Suzuki. Roczen struggled last year and didn\u2019t get a lot of off-season test time coming into the 2023 season. It almost didn\u2019t happen for Tomac. Within a minute of the 450SX main starting, Tomac had found his way to the lead and was flying over the jumps with his updated 2023 Star Racing Yamaha YZ450F. Halfway through the race, Tomac crashed on the bridge jump and lost the lead along with several positions. Malcolm Stewart moved into position to take the lead. Chase Sexton pushed past Stewart as the crowd went wild inside the stadium. As the clock ticked down Tomac was working his way back to the front. With just a couple minutes to go in the moto, Sexton made a mistake, allowing Tomac to capitalize on the opportunity to re-gain the lead. Tomac made a clean pass around Sexton and brought home the victory. Cooper Webb and Chase Sexton finished second and third.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nIn the Western Regional 250SX class, Austin Forkner went down in crash right after the gate dropped. Out front Jett Lawrence was doing what he does best, leading the race. Lawrence remained unchallenged throughout the entire 20-minute moto. RJ Hampshire and Cameron McAdoo joined Lawrence on the podium.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nRound 2 of Supercross will be held January 14th<\/sup> at RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland. The Supercross series is now part of a new Super Motocross World Championship. Winning his heat race, Roczen went onto win the main event. It was Chase Sexton who had the holeshot when the gate dropped. Sexton had also won his heat race. Roczen was quickly there to steal away the lead.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nAs the race went on, Sexton nearly contacted one of his Honda teammates, Adam Cianciarulo and in mid-air getting out of shape and crashing in a turn. Sexton crashed again half a lap later. Late in the race, Cooper Webb made a hard charge, taking second in attempt to chase down Roczen.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nThe Western Regional 250 class started with injuries and riders going down in their heat races including Colt Nichols, Jalek Swoll and Carson Brown. When it came down to the main event, Seth Hammaker had the holeshot, but Vince Friese moved in early to get out front. Friese later had to deal with Christian Craig who made a hard charge to take the lead.
