Ricky Gutierrez struggled in the opening rounds at the Dirt City track back in June. This time around he had his truck dialed in. Ryan Beat was leading the race and was looking for another win until a tire let go forcing him into the hot pit. Ricky G seized the opportunity and took control of the field for his first win of the season. On Sunday, Cory Winner made it through all of the door-banging and contact to also secure his first win of the season.\r\n\r\n[caption id=\"attachment_10179\" align=\"alignnone\" width=\"640\"]\"\" Jimmy Henderson secures his first win of the season at Dirt City. Kyle Greaves came away with his first career win the Pro-2 class. Kyle built a new truck for the series in the off-season and has spent several rounds dialing it in. Friday\u2019s race saw multiple lead changes with Ryan Beat and Mickey Thomas both leading laps until tire changes and mechanical problems would force them to give up positions. That opened the door for Kyle to take over the top spot. An excited Kyle said he got his first win in Pro-Lite at ERX. \u201cI absolutely love this place, and I think it loves me,\u201d said Kyle.\r\n

Everyone was treated to door to door racing short course is known for.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nIn the Pro-2 class, Ricky Gutierrez started \u00a0out front on the first lap. He held that position for several laps before Mickey Thomas came knocking on his back door. Gutierrez had steam coming out of his truck indicating things were getting hot. Literally! Gutierrez was able to get the truck cooled down temporarily during the mandatory caution. Thomas put the hammer down and the two drivers swapped lead positions bringing the crowd to their feet. The heat got the best of Gutierrez giving Thomas the lead and season opening win.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nIn Pro-4, the \u201cWildman\u201d Adrian Cenni put on a show for the fans. Swapping the lead back and forth with Jimmy Henderson, Cenni came out on top for a podium. Fans packed the hillside for the final day of racing at the famous Upper Michigan track.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting races of the day was the Pro-4 class. CJ Greaves had the early lead with the rest of field roaring right behind him. Just after the mandatory caution, Jimmy Henderson came off a jump close enough to cause CJ to swerve into a guardrail. Henderson moved into the lead. Unfortunately, Henderson was forced into the hot pits allowing Adrian Cenni to take command of the race. Cenni drove his Pro-4 to his first 2023 win in the Championship Off Road Racing Series.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nThe Pro-2 class also put on another exciting race for the fans with tight door to door action. Despite cooler cloudy conditions, fans still packed the grandstands to watch a full day of racing. This year the track was run in reverse, challenging those drivers who have become too comfortable with the layout. Drivers had to be on their toe, gaining speed in corners and off jumps to give them a competitive advantage.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\n\u201cRowdy\u201d Ryan Beat proved at the season opener his Pro-2 truck was dialed in for the season. Beat wasted no time leading the field through the first turn. Beat stayed clean the entire race. After struggling in 2022 with a handful of podiums but no wins, Beat is ready to prove he has what it takes to make it to the championship. Beat will be one to watch this season.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nIn the Pro-4 class, six trucks started the race. In the first lap, three immediately became casualties of racing. That left CJ Greaves, Adrian Cenni and Kyle Greaves to fight it out. Kyle was driving Johnny\u2019s Pro-4. Johnny was hospitalized after a Friday qualifying crash. The latest word is Johnny is doing ok after posting a photo from his hospital bed. Meanwhile defending champion CJ and Cenni swapped lead positions for several laps with some exciting door to door racing. In the end CJ claimed the top spot on the podium.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nEarlier in the afternoon, Kyle Greaves had already stood high atop the podium. Kyle patiently waited for the mandatory caution flag before striking. Kyle and Trey Gibbs spent the remaining laps battling for the lead. It wouldn\u2019t take long for Kyle to find the perfect line that carried enough speed to make his lead stick all the way to the checkered flag. Championship Off-Road hosted the season opener at the Roaring Lions Raceway in Antigo, Wisconsin. After a long off-season, drivers were ready to hit the track and do what they do best\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u2013 side-by-side door banging!\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nIn Round One Pro-2, Mickey Thomas and Jerett Brooks went door to door for several laps. In the end, Thomas took the victory with a hard-earned podium. Sunday\u2019s Round two race was just as exciting. This time however, it was Ricky Gutierrez who inserted himself in the mix. For Gutierrez, the gloves were off and fought a hard battle to gain the lead and bring home a much-awaited win.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nThe Pro Lite class saw much of the same door to door battling each lap. Nineteen drivers took to the track. Brock Heger is the defending champion from last year he spent the first several laps chasing down Carson Parrish. After a yellow flag, Heger bucked down and it didn\u2019t take him long to find his groove out front holding off attacks in every corner. In Round two, rookie Connor Barry found his way to the front and lead some laps. Unfortunately, a couple of mistakes would erase his lead and when the dust settled, he finished shy of the podium. Brock Heger held on for the weekend sweep.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nOver in Pro-4, the usual battle was between CJ Greaves and Kyle Leduc. As the laps ticked down, CJ had a comfortable lead earning the top spot on the podium with Adrian Cenni second and Leduc third. Sunday, Leduc did all he could to stay up front, but an issue would almost put him a lap down and send him to the back of the pack. A wild turn one crash by Adrian Cenni would send the field to a red flag. Leduc was able to get back into the mix. With a Green, White, Checker, Leduc went head to head making contact with Johnny Greaves. That contact caused Johnny to have tire damage resulting in a flat. By then CJ was way out front and cruised to another win. Leduc finished second.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nThe series heads to Crandon for the Spring Brush run in a couple of weeks.","excerpt":"

The season opener was held at the Langlade County Fairgrounds in Antigo, Wisconsin. The grandstands were packed, and the track was full amid the excitement of a new season.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\" \"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nThe wildest race of the weekend was the Pro-2 class. A record twenty trucks took to the track. When you have that many trucks jockeying for positions there is bound to be crashes and pile-ups. That\u2019s exactly what happened. Multiple cautions both days with body panels and other parts flying everywhere kept drivers on their toes and the safety crews alert. When the dust settled Keegan Kincaid came away with a weekend sweep setting the tone for the season that he was ready to do serious battle with the field.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nIn Pro-Lite, Brock Heger was another driver that came away with a weekend sweep. Saturday\u2019s Round 1 saw Madix Bailey and Kyle Greaves on the podium with him. In Sunday\u2019s Round 2, Cole Mamer made it to the podium in second place with Kyle Greaves taking another third place. Greaves flipped his truck in one of the turns with just a couple laps to go, but miraculously landed on all four wheels and kept going without losing a position.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nThe drivers in Pro-4 had a rough go, but in the end CJ Greaves also joined the weekend sweep club. Doug Mittag and Andrew Carlson were on the podium in Round 1. When the race started in Round 2, Kyle Leduc was out front running and checking out. Halfway through the race, Leduc found himself holding off CJ. They went side by side off two jumps and into the corner as CJ did everything he could to get in front of Leduc. When they reached the rhythm section, the transmission let go in Leduc\u2019s truck, sadly ending his run. As other trucks tangled on the track in the later laps, Adrian Cenni and Doug Mittag joined CJ on the podium.\r\n\r\nCJ Greaves also swept the weekend in the Pro Stock side-by-side class.
