Coco from Coco's Corner has passed away. Coco, whose real name is Jorge Enrique Corral has been a Baja fixture for decades. He lived at Coco's Corner, which has long been a must stop to see his eclectic collection of toilets and broken television sets. Coco had a collection of guest books that contained signatures of travelers from all around the world. Coco was always full of advice and \u201cBaja knowledge.\u201d He spoke little English but could point you in the right direction of whatever you were looking for.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nThe original Coco\u2019s corner sat along a dusty road that connected small towns along the Sea of Cortez to Baja\u2019s main Highway 1. A new paved highway was built to extend Mexico Highway 5 to Highway 1. An effort was made to relocate Coco\u2019s Corner along the Highway, so travelers could still stop in and say and have a beer. Races including the Baja 1000 and NORRA Mexican 1000 have gone right past Coco\u2019s Corner. Coco offered camping on his property during the races and racers would use the location as a pit stop.","excerpt":"

The annual race is headed to Cabo for the first time since the pandemic began. Last year\u2019s race was a rare loop, starting and finishing in Ensenada. The 2020 version was cancelled by COVID.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nOne of the most iconic vehicles is running the in the rally. The original Big Oly that recently sold for over a million dollars is back in the dirt. The last time it raced, Parnelli Jones was behind the wheel. There are also several Myers-Manx vehicles in the rally.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\" \"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nThe Rally has no shortage of Baja legends competing. The course will take competitors south down the Baja Peninsula over five days ending in San Jose Del Cabo. The first day of racing takes the competitors into San Felipe. One hundred ninety vehicles are already registered to race. SCORE will hold a qualifying session for Trophy Truck, Class 1 and Trophy Truck Spec classes on Wednesday September 15th<\/sup>.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nRacers can prerun mile 33.5 all the way to 366.50. The first 33 miles of the race will be available to pre-run the day before the race starts. The course features 400 miles of rugged Baja terrain starting in Ensenada. It winds through Ojos Negros, heading south through silty terrain, canyons and washes. There are several terrain and elevation changes throughout the course before turning back to the north next to the Pacific Ocean.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\n\u201cThis course has fast, rough and technical sections. It goes through several of new trails and it is a great example of what a challenging SCORE Baja race course looks like with several surprises for the racers.
