The victory sets Menzies up nicely with a leading starting position for the upcoming SCORE Baja 1000 in November. Starting positions for that race are determined by finishing order at the 400. Menzies qualified second behind Luke McMillin. McMillin had the lead for the first 60 miles of the race before Menzies made the leading pass. McMillin was down with a flat tire change. The two four-wheel drive Trophy Truck wheelmen stayed close for the entire race. Menzies even lost his four-wheel drive maneuverability halfway through the race but managed to keep the lead.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\n\u201cWe had a clean day. We started out pretty smooth, just trying to chase Luke (McMillin) down. He got a flat early at about race mile 65. We got him while he was changing a flat. And then from there we just held him behind us with about a two and half minute gap and just wanted to keep him there in case we had any issues,\u201d said Menzies.\u00a0 \u201cOverall, we just had one flat and my co-driver (Willie Valdez) changed it in 50 seconds, which is absolutely unheard of. Other than that issue we had a great run. It feels really good to win back-to-back SCORE Baja 400\u2019s. We lost four-wheel drive at race mile 210. It tested my skills. I had to learn how to drive a four-wheel drive, then I had to re-learn to drive it with two-wheel drive. Overall, an epic day.\u201d\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nOnce all of the penalties were sorted out in the other classes, Christopher Polvoorde came out on top in the Trophy Spec Truck class. Racers locking up championships for 2021 in the SCORE World Desert Championship include Rob MacCachren. MacCachren\u2019s win with Luke McMillin at the Baja 1000 cemented the championship for Rob. Ironically, Luke McMillin is the defending champion this year in Trophy Truck. His disqualification at the Baja 500 moved Rob closer to the top. The duo decided to campaign MacCachren\u2019s Trophy Truck race number and use him as driver of record to win points for the championship. MacCachren has four season point championships in the SCORE Trophy Truck division.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nJason McNeil may not have won the SCORE Baja 1000, but he did secure the points championship. McNeil had back to back wins in the Baja 500 and Baja 400 this year in the Trophy Spec division. In addition to winning his class championship, McNeil also secures the overall truck point championship.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nOther class winners include Cody Parkhouse who secured the Class 1 championship. Parkhouse won the SCORE Baja 400. He struggled, unable to finish the Baja 500. With a second-place finish during the Baja 1000, Parkhouse was able to lock up the class championship. Jack Olliges was in a tight battle with Christian Strobel for the lead in the UTV Stock Class. With just one lap to go, Strobel ran out of fuel. Olliges took the win with Kaden Wells finishing second. Wells still won in his class- UTV Naturally Aspirated. Olliges also won the second day of racing earning the overall for the weekend. Ryan Piplic dominated the UTV Turbo Class.\r\n\r\n\"\"\"\"\r\n\r\nThe 6100 class saw a stacked field of trucks. Travis Williams finished on top Day 1. On the second day, Brent Fox saw the podium. Menzies, who is from Las Vegas qualified for the race right in his own backyard. Menzies has won the last two Vegas to Reno races and is going for his third overall win. It was a heartbreak for the Concrete Motorsports team of Harley Letner and Kevin Thompson. Letner looked fast out of the gate in qualifying. Letner took a turn too fast on the course and rolled the truck. The team will have their work cut out for them starting the race at the back of the pack. Letner and Thompson remain undefeated this season in Best in the Desert. A qualifying session was held for the unlimited classes. The race had 132 entries spread across motorcycle, car and truck classes.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nComing off a winning streak at another desert series, Kevin Thompson and Harley Letner entered their unlimited truck in the Legacy Baja Nevada race. They didn\u2019t even need to clean the dust off of it. The team came in first both days earning them the overall win. Eric Hustead and TJ Flores took second in the class. Jake Johnson also pulled off an overall Class 1 win. Luke battled all day for the lead with brother Dan and several other top Trophy Truck drivers. At one point near the end of the race, the Ampudia team was four minutes behind Luke on corrected time past the last checkpoint. Their trophy truck struck a rock on the course they weren\u2019t able to see due to the dust, tearing off the front end just miles from the finish. Rob MacCachren took second.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nWe got some gnarly silt and some tough bumps out there. Part of the portion I drove was also part of the course of the SCORE Baja 500, so it was just rough. It\u2019s hard to pick up your pace in a 1,000-mile race and don\u2019t beat up the truck too much, so we tried to be strategic on that. It was a tough course, but a great course.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nBF Goodrich handed Luke a bonus check totaling $25,000 for his win.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nCody Parkhouse won Class 1 after gaining a substantial lead. The Parkhouse team had to fix a few flat tires and a broken belt during the race. Jeremy Davis took a class 10 win for the Green Army Team. Jeff Bader was victorious in the Trophy Truck Spec class. Road racer Rhys Millen won class 7 and Elliot Watson claimed the Pro UTV win for Team Honda. Wes Miller also won in the Pro UTV forced induction class. The race was held in San Felipe over the weekend. Robby Gordon was the top qualifier in the trophy truck class. The course length was 493 miles and went north up to Mexicali before turning back south towards San Felipe.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nGordon started out front and held the lead for the first 200 miles. The Herbst trophy truck was close behind Gordon. Tim Herbst made it to the finish line first, but once official tracking data was reviewed, the win was awarded to Dan McMillin. McMillin finished the race in 8 hours, 29 seconds.
