During day one of the event, Webb came out of the land rush start up Turkey Claw unscathed. He continued to lead the race through several difficult rock sections including dropping down backdoor twice at a very brisk pace. Webb was the first back into Hammertown ahead of last year\u2019s winner Trystan Hart.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nSunday\u2019s race start saw Webb move at the same pace covering over 41 miles of difficult terrain across the Hammer trails. \u201cThe dirt was the best it\u2019s ever been and this is the best King of the Motos we\u2019ve ever had. It was a really fun race out there with those young guys, but I was still able to pull it off. Not pitting on the last lap really was definitely the thing that helped get me the win and get away from those guys,\u201d said Webb.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nAt least 150 riders participated in the King of the Motos event. Riders were not allowed to receive outside assistance during the race. They had to refuel their own bikes and change their own tires along with make their own repairs to their bikes. After a year off, King of the Motos was back. A record 175 riders entered the two-day event. Riders were challenged by giant boulders and jagged rock sections on the toughest 40-mile course in the desert.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nThe event began Saturday morning with a single lap Prologue event that determined starting positions for the first race. Will Riordan earned himself the pole position. Saturday afternoon the race started with a gnarly land rush start straight up a rocky hillside. It was chaos as riders got stuck attempting to find their way through the section. Trystan Hart led the pace, quickly separating from the field. Hart kept a three-minute lead over Cody Webb. Both have won King of the Motos. Webb has won five times. Hart took the victory in 2021.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nIn the second race on Sunday, riders had to complete two laps, starting at the bottom of Chocolate Thunder. Colton Haaker led the first of the racers through keeping ahead of the carnage behind him. By the first checkpoint, both Trystan Hart and Cody Webb were back out front with a big lead. Webb stayed consistently behind Hart until a GPS error led Webb off-course where he lost valuable time. The popular race is part of the events of King of the Hammers week. \u00a0Much like the four wheeled vehicle course, King of the Motos features high speed desert terrain and rockcrawling over giant boulders. The course can be much harder to navigate on two wheels. Organizer Justin Leineweber threw in an extra element. The entire course was unmarked. Riders had to navigate the course via GPS units.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nGerman KTM rider Manuel Littenbichler had the lead on the third lap, battling Cody Webb. Unfortunately, Littenbhichler somehow bypassed the obstacle in Backdoor. He was assessed a 1-hour penalty. 2017 winner Colton Haaker received a similar penalty. The mistakes allowed Cody Webb to take the victory and the crown. Webb missed a checkpoint in 2017 and lost to Haaker. Webb has multiple wins at the King of the Motos. Webb sustained an ACL injury ten months prior to the event sidelining him from racing.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\n\u201cThe first lap everyone was taking turns leading, making mistakes. I kind of didn\u2019t make the best decision on tires but it lasted. I ran a standard tire, just because I knew it\u2019d last, and it really kicked my butt,\u201d Webb said. \u201cSo, the first two laps I struggled, and I did all I could to hang with Manny, just to stay in his rear wheel. That last half I had a way better tire setup. And then I shot up Backdoor, and I saw him miss it, and then it was like \u201cOk, I know he missed that checkpoint.\u201d So, once I saw Manny miss that checkpoint on the final lap, I was like \u2018OK, take your time, don\u2019t mess anything up because that\u2019s going to be a big setback for him.\u201d I lost that way a couple of years ago and it sucks.
