Everyone was treated to door to door racing short course is known for.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nIn the Pro-2 class, Ricky Gutierrez started \u00a0out front on the first lap. He held that position for several laps before Mickey Thomas came knocking on his back door. Gutierrez had steam coming out of his truck indicating things were getting hot. Literally! Gutierrez was able to get the truck cooled down temporarily during the mandatory caution. Thomas put the hammer down and the two drivers swapped lead positions bringing the crowd to their feet. The heat got the best of Gutierrez giving Thomas the lead and season opening win.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nIn Pro-4, the \u201cWildman\u201d Adrian Cenni put on a show for the fans. Swapping the lead back and forth with Jimmy Henderson, Cenni came out on top for a podium. Henderson and Johnny Greaves would make contact allowing Andrew Carlson to get by and claim the second podium spot.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nJohnny Holtger cruised to an easy Pro-Lite win for his first race of the season. Series Champions were crowned over the weekend at the final Glen Helen race.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nSeven points separated Christopher Polvoorde and Madix Bailey. Bailey remained in a good position for most of the weekend. Sunday, Bailey would start out front and lead the field. He did everything he could to hold a charge from Polvoorde. In an instant, three laps into the race, Bailey rolled on his side in a turn. A full-course caution was brought out and the track crew righted Bailey, so he could continue on the lead lap. A lap later, heartbreak struck again as his race would end after contact with other trucks. Christopher Polvoorde went on to win the race and season championship.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nOne of the most hotly contested battles right to the finish would be in Pro Buggy. It was an all-out track fight between Trevor Briska and Trey Gibbs. Both would charge extremely hard every lap right up until the final turn coming off a jump side-by-side. Briska got crossed up with Gibbs and ended up driving over him to finish the race. Gibbs was shut down. In a turn of events, race officials penalized Briska for rough driving and the championship was awarded to Gibbs.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nHusband and wife team of Jason and Corry Weller finished together first and second in points in the SR1 UTV class racing a pair of Can Ams. Dave Mason Jr cruised to an easy finish and championship in his eBay Motors backed Pro-2. Connor Barry locked up a modified kart championship. GAS is run by some familiar faces in the industry. Lee Perfect has teamed up with Ultra-4 and King of the Hammers creator Dave Cole to form the series.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nThe GAS event was a hybrid regional and national event. The usual Kart Classes, Buggy Pro-2, UTV and Pro-Lite classes were run alongside Class 11and mini-stock truck classes not usually seen at a national short course event. There were two full days of racing with a total of 141 entries.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nThe event saw several of the rising superstars of short course such as Christopher Polvoorde, Madix Bailey, Dave Mason Jr and Matt Brister. A limited number of spectator tickets were sold as fans were allowed to sit in the grandstands. Fans haven\u2019t been able to attend short course race events on the west coast since the beginning of the pandemic.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nMadix Bailey swept the weekend in the Pro-Lite class. In Pro-2, Trevor Leighton got around Dave Mason Jr for the win on Day 1. Mason took the victory on day 2. Trevor Briska was on the top spot on the podium Day 1 with Matt Brister taking it on Day 2.
