This is the first year the rally was part of the FIM Rally-Raid World Championship. Sanders won a total of three special stage victories during the rally.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-6982\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Daniel-Sanders_2023-SonoraRally-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/>\r\n\r\nSanders had a seven-minute lead going into the final day of competition By the 35-kilometer mark, Sanders was out front doing what he does best, cruising to a victory. \u00a0It\u2019s great to get my first rally win. It feels like it\u2019s been a long time coming \u2013 obviously after a year off it\u2019s great to be back where I want to be. Dakar\u2019s the big one but getting wins in the world championship is also super important. I\u2019ve had some bad luck with speed penalties and things like that in some events, so to finally get a world championship win means a lot to me. Also, I feel like I\u2019ve ridden well this event, leading out on several days, and generally having a good run through the event. Yeah, after a year out and then getting sick at Dakar, it\u2019s all heading in the right direction. We have an amazing week and a good lead now. The series headed east for the first time this season. Anderson\u2019s win puts him three points out of the lead.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4667\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/SupercrossMinneapolis_450Podium-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/>\r\n\r\nAs the gate dropped, Cooper Webb had the holeshot and early lead. Chase Sexton was chasing Webb down. Sexton overtook Webb to for the lead. \u00a0Anderson was there too, running third. Both Anderson and Malcolm Stewart made a charge to get around Webb. \u00a0Webb ended up sliding out in a corner with three minutes on the clock. In a major heartbreak, Sexton crashed, flinging him into the air. Sexton would not be able to finish the race. Just like the last few rounds, racing was competitive along with some of the usual drama.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4492\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/2022SupercrossA2_TomacWin-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/>\r\n\r\nKen Roczen snagged the holeshot with Malcolm Stewart in second place. Jason Anderson made a quick move around Stewart. He then set his sights on Roczen, making an aggressive move that cost Roczen. Both riders collided in a sand section sending Roczen off the bike. Anderson managed to stay on the bike and continued to run the lead. Half-way into the race, Anderson high-sided off the track allowing Eli Tomac to cut under and finish the race for the win. Anderson finished second and Tomac third.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4493\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/2022SupercrossA2_ChristianCraig-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/>\r\n\r\nIn the Western Regional 250SX class, Vince Friese was out front at the start of the race. Also battling for the lead was Michael Mosiman, Christian Craig and Jo Shimoda. With Mosiman in the lead, Craig began his hunt to get out front. Friese was running in third when a crash in the whoops knocked him off the bike. Hunter Lawrence moved into third. As Friese was getting back up, he was hit by Shimoda. The contact sent Shimoda off the bike. As the time and the laps ticked away, Craig made his move around Mosiman. Mosiman attempted to regain the spot but was unsuccessful. Winning his heat race, Roczen went onto win the main event. It was Chase Sexton who had the holeshot when the gate dropped. Sexton had also won his heat race. Roczen was quickly there to steal away the lead.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4275\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/SupercrossA1_Roczen-and-Webb-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/>\r\n\r\nAs the race went on, Sexton nearly contacted one of his Honda teammates, Adam Cianciarulo and in mid-air getting out of shape and crashing in a turn. Sexton crashed again half a lap later. Late in the race, Cooper Webb made a hard charge, taking second in attempt to chase down Roczen.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4276\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/SupercrossA1_Christin-Craig-Leader-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/>\r\n\r\nThe Western Regional 250 class started with injuries and riders going down in their heat races including Colt Nichols, Jalek Swoll and Carson Brown. When it came down to the main event, Seth Hammaker had the holeshot, but Vince Friese moved in early to get out front. Friese later had to deal with Christian Craig who made a hard charge to take the lead. The stage took competitors from Ha\u2019il to Al Qaisumah for a total of 491 miles. The A.S.O. had originally planned a marathon stage, however heavy rains at Al Artawiyah forced officials to move the finish to Al Qaisumah where Stage 3 was planned. Monster Energy Honda\u2019s Joan Barreda Bort from Spain was the stage winner in the bike class. Sam Sunderland finished second on his GasGas motorcycle. Sunderland now has the overall lead. Skyler Howes improved his position with a 5<sup>th<\/sup> place finish while Andrew Short couldn\u2019t do better than ninth, the same place he finished in Stage One. Further down in the field, Ricky Brabec held on for 15<sup>th<\/sup> position.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4187\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DakarRally_Bort_StageTwo-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/>\r\n<p class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4183\"><img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4184\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DakarRally_SethQuintero_StageTwo-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/p>\r\nSeth Quintero had a rough day for the Red Bull Junior team, getting stranded out in the desert with a mechanical issue just 30 miles from the finish line. Carlos Sainz continues to follow right behind with a third-place finish in the electric Audi RS Q e-tron. Just over three months ago, the season started there and at that time it was anyone\u2019s guess who would win the championship. A second-place finish in Moto two, was all Ferrandis needed to clinch the title. He becomes the first Frenchman in 30 years to win the championship. The 450 class has seen 26 different title holders in the last 50 years. High temperatures and high humidity made the day challenging for the riders, but the battles continued.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3100\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/IronmanNational_JettLawrencePodium-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>\r\n\r\nIn the first 250 moto, Jett Lawrence grabbed an early lead charging past Justin Cooper. Jeremy Martin also made a hard charge, putting a ton of pressure on Lawrence. An unfortunate crash would end Martin\u2019s race and he would have to be karted off the track with a wrist injury. Lawrence went on to win the moto. Jo Shimoda ended up finishing second. In Moto 2, Shimoda had the lucky holeshot. Jett Lawrence made his back to the front to take over the lead. Lawrence took another win and the overall.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3101\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/IronmanNational_Eli-Tomac-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>\r\n\r\nThings continued to heat up in the 450 class. Points leader Dylan Ferrandis was out front until Ken Roczen came out of nowhere to take the lead. Ferrandis wasn\u2019t going to let Roczen get away with that and regained the lead. Eli Tomac was back in the mix too, swapping positions with Roczen. Ferrandis ended up with the win. Cooper Webb had an early lead in Moto 2 battling with Ferrandis. Tomac was back on the move earning the lead from both riders. In the first lap, Ken Roczen was out front capitalizing on his momentum from last weekend at Unadilla. Dylan Ferrandis made a late-race attack on Roczen. Roczen held on for the win. Roczen grabbed the holeshot in the second moto. Ferrandis was back on Roczen\u2019s rear tire, this time successfully taking over the lead. Chase Sexton went down on the first lap. Several laps later, Aaron Plessinger went down while running in second. Roczen ended up winning the moto. Points leader Dylan Ferrandis finished second. In the second moto, Chase Sexton had collected himself and was ready to race. He grabbed the holeshot to lead the field. Roczen continued to move on a mission, getting around Sexton for the lead and the win. Roczen\u2019s two wins earned him the overall.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3002\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Unadila_Justin-Cooper-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>\r\n\r\nIn 250 Moto 1, Justin Cooper had the holeshot. He had a lot of pressure from Jett Lawrence, but Cooper was able to maintain the lead and secure the win. \u00a0In Moto 2, Justin Cooper was back out front with another holeshot. Jeremy Martin wasted no time getting to the front and stealing the lead away from Cooper. The event marked the second half of the season. Washougal was Round 7 in the series.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2916\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/ProMX_Washougal_Eli-Tomac-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/> <img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2917\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/ProMX_Washougal_Dylan-Ferrandis-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>\r\n\r\nChase Sexton grabbed the holeshot in the first 450 moto. Behind Sexton, Cooper Webb and Ken Roczen were locked in a battle for position. Marvin Musquin also joined them. Sexton maintained his lead and claimed the win. In Moto 2, Cooper Webb briefly had the lead before Dylan Ferrandis got around him. Eli Tomac smoothly got around several riders to the second spot. Tomac got right behind Ferrandis but by then he was out of laps to move to the lead. Ferrandis takes the win and Sexton grabbed the overall.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2918\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/ProMX_Washougal_JustinCooper-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/> <img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2920\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/ProMX_Washougal_JeremyMartin-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>\r\n\r\nIn the 250 class, several riders were collected in a crash in turn 1, Justin Cooper was out front in an early lead and eventual first moto win. RJ Hampshire and Jeremy Martin were on the podium in second and third place. Justin Cooper was back out front with the holeshot in the second moto with Jeremy Martin looking to steal his spot. Martin finally got around Cooper. Cooper later made a mistake and went off the bike losing his second-place spot and washing away his hopes for the overall win of the weekend.
