Photo: Champ Off Road[/caption]

Heading into the event, the championship picture was razor-thin. Drivers in PRO2, PRO4, SxS, and buggy classes all entered knowing their result in San Bernardino could make or break their season. On the PRO2 side, Ken Roczen — the motocross and supercross star — made his debut in the series, adding fresh intrigue to an already stacked field. From the opening maneuvers to the final checkered flag, battles erupted at every turn. Tricks, air time, wheel-to-wheel action and some strategic gambles all played roles. In typical Glen Helen fashion, drivers had to manage dust, blind crests, and uneven terrain all while pushing for max speed.

[caption id="attachment_14195" align="alignnone" width="640"] Ricky G had a successful weekend at Glen Helen in Pro2 claiming the top podium spot two days in a row. Bailey remained in a good position for most of the weekend. Sunday, Bailey would start out front and lead the field. He did everything he could to hold a charge from Polvoorde. In an instant, three laps into the race, Bailey rolled on his side in a turn. A full-course caution was brought out and the track crew righted Bailey, so he could continue on the lead lap. Jerett Brooks took the victory, Ricky Gutierrez held onto second holding off Brian Deegan who was hot on his heels in the last turn, all the way to the finish line. Round 2, the gloves came off. Much more contact between trucks. Ryan Beat led several laps before a flat tire would force him into the hot pits. Beat managed to stay on the lead lap, while several others would not be so lucky. The opening rounds of the season were originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, March 14th and 15th, 2020 at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California. The series says the weeklong forecast leading into the weekend is filled with rain that will present an array of potential challenges in putting on the event. The series was forced to make a proactive cancellation in the best interest of all parties.

“This was not a decision that we came to lightly. We know that our competitors have put in months of preparation for this weekend, and we know our passionate fanbase has been eagerly awaiting the start of the 2020 season,” explained Ritchie Lewis, Director of Race Operations. “From the moment we became aware of the weather forecast and were subsequently forced to consider making such a difficult decision, we took every single element into consideration. Ultimately, the ability to host a successful event, both for our competitors and for our fans, was the driving force behind our decision. Given how persistent the precipitation is expected to be during the week of the race, it would present a significant challenge in getting the venue properly prepared for the weekend, and we believed it was in the best interest of the entire short course community to take a proactive approach to reschedule those rounds, with the intention of providing our competitors ample notice of the change.”

The Series is expected to continue racing Saturday April 25th and Sunday April 26th in Chandler, Arizona. Any presale tickets can be exchanged for another event within the series. The two rounds of missed racing will be made up at other events later in the season.

The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series has announced it is cancelling the upcoming Glen Helen Race this weekend and …

{
