Jason Scherer who qualified second, held the lead for the entire 3-lap race. Gomez qualified fourth and kept Scherer in his sights. It was the last lap just miles from the finish that Gomez knew he had Scherer beat on corrected time.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\n\u201cI am super excited; my team did a lot of hard work. We came out here and did our homework and re-did our homework,\u201d said Gomez after celebrating on stage. The course took racers through rock gardens and up to tight twisty turns into trees that blossomed bright fall colors.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nComing into the weekend, Josh Blyler had the point lead over Vaughn Gittin Jr. As racing got started, Paul Horschel had the lead blasting through a \u201cjoker line\u201d on course. As Horschel put time on the rest of the field, he somehow began to experience issues. His teammate Brett Harrell unknowingly took over the lead. Harrell and his co-driver stayed consistent, clicking of laps. They were surprised when they learned at the checkered flag they had won the race. Meantime, Vaughn Gittin Jr was struggling to make it up the rock waterfalls. Up ahead, Josh Blyler was running a steady pace finishing third behind JP Gomez. Blyler had enough points to secure the season championship.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nA day earlier in the 4600 class, the story turned to the Ford Bronco. Championships will be decided at Legends of the Fall, set to take place at the South Lake Grand Lake Recreation area in the Disney\/Langley, Oklahoma area October 27th<\/sup>-30th<\/sup>.\r\n\r\nDisney is known as a top rock crawling destination in Oklahoma. Disney, named after US Congressman Wesley E. Disney has just over 200 residents. The draw to this location is Grand Lake, hidden below the Pensacola Dam. The area features rock gardens, hill climbs and trails. Within the immediate area there five state parks. Each weekend the area fills up with off-road enthusiasts looking to have a good time. That makes this the perfect venue to host the Ultra4 Legends of the Fall event.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nFormer KOH King Josh Blyler currently sits atop the national points standings and is looking to stretch out his lead during Legends of the Fall in the premiere 4400 class. Vaughn Gittin Jr from the Fun Haver team is looking to make up a forty-five-point deficit in his rock modified unlimited Ford Bronco. Casey Gilbert is also in the hunt. Rick Lavezzo has the lead in the 4500 Modified class. Vaughn Gittin Jr also has another Bronco he has been campaigning in the 4600-stock class and has only a twelve-point deficit to catch leader Brad Lovell. Bailey Cole also sits third in the standings and is within striking distance of a national championship. Other points leaders include Ryan Taylor in 4800 limited, Paul Wolff in Pro Mod, Joshua Smith in UTV stock and Mark Welch in UTV Open.\r\n\r\nThe National Rock Racing Association will also hold their championships during the weekend at the Grand Lake venue. For years, there have been just a very small handful of racers that continuously won the event over and over. Blyler had the lead at the very end of the race with Hammertown in his sights when he rolled the car on Backdoor. Every second would count. Recovery crews positioned in the canyon had to hook up to the vehicle and get it back on all four wheels. Blyler left his co-driver behind and raced to the finish line with a 20-minute lead on corrected time.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\n\u201cWe really messed that up. That was really stupid,\u201d said Blyler when asked about the rollover. \u201cWe came to this race four years ago and my goal was to finish,\u201d said Blyler. Finish he did in a Miller Motorsports chassis. Right behind Blyler was Erik Miller who was eventually scored in second place on corrected time.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nJust under one hundred starters took the green flag at the 2020 King of the Hammers race. The day began with a military flyover from the 29 Palms Marine Base. Loren Healy was out front early on in the race. Healy opted to run this year\u2019s King of the Hammers in a single seat race vehicle. That may have been a wrong gamble as he soon began to drop back in the field. Through the dust, Bailey Campbell was leading on her last lap with shot at the title. She would go down with mechanical issues. Cameron Steele was next up in lead as he passed Campbell. It wouldn\u2019t be long before the gremlins struck Steele too. Mechanical issues would end his run. Steele competed Thursday in the T1 Unlimited Desert truck race. Mechanical issues sidelined him there too.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nA potential bottleneck in Chocolate Thunder had officials scrambling to discuss a course re-route. As the leaders neared the famous obstacle, Promoter Dave Cole gave the competitors a thumbs up to go through. Crisis averted. Racers will finish throughout the night, accomplishing the impossible.
