\r\n\r\nTwo days earlier, Paul Wolff topped qualifying for the Race of Kings, the final event held during King of the Hammers for the Unlimited horse-power 4400 class. Jason Scherer who qualified second, held the lead for the entire 3-lap race. Gomez qualified fourth and kept Scherer in his sights. It was the last lap just miles from the finish that Gomez knew he had Scherer beat on corrected time.\r\n\r\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/2023KOH_RaceofKings_GomezFront-1024x683.jpg\")

And I caught a kicker out there somewhere we thought compromised our driver-side front wheel, so my pit crew changed it. These wheels are bomb-proof tough, but I just didn\u2019t want to take a chance. \r\n\r\nIn Pro-Buggy, Lorenzo Bonacci had the fastest laps in his Bomber Eyewear machine. Bonacci managed to stay out front most of the race. In the Pro-Lite class, Connor Barry was out front for the first half of the race. All attention was on two simultaneous races Saturday afternoon. The \u201cTerraCrew\u201d 1450 trucks and Class 11 Volkswagen bugs both started at the same time in two different locations. A classic landrush start was held for the bugs as they shot off into the desert and jockeyed for position. \r\n\r\nThis year the bugs would run a 40-mile desert loop. King of the Hammers always has a high attrition rate no matter what class you are running. Out of 25 starters, only 15 finished. Vandermark was one of those finishers, but he did not see the podium. When the dust settled, Alex Gonzales brought home the victory ahead of Cisco Bio. \r\n\r\nThe event began Saturday morning with a single lap Prologue event that determined starting positions for the first race. Will Riordan earned himself the pole position. Saturday afternoon the race started with a gnarly land rush start straight up a rocky hillside. It was chaos as riders got stuck attempting to find their way through the section. Trystan Hart led the pace, quickly separating from the field. Hart kept a three-minute lead over Cody Webb. Both have won King of the Motos. Webb has won five times. \r\n\r\nIn the second race on Sunday, riders had to complete two laps, starting at the bottom of Chocolate Thunder. Colton Haaker led the first of the racers through keeping ahead of the carnage behind him. By the first checkpoint, both Trystan Hart and Cody Webb were back out front with a big lead. Webb stayed consistently behind Hart until a GPS error led Webb off-course where he lost valuable time.
