As we look ahead, there are too many variables that could impact the financial commitment and overall health of the series going forward, which necessitated this difficult course of action."

The series has hosted races for 12-years. The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series began after the 2008 financial failure of Championship Off Road Racing (CORR). Former CORR employee Tony Vanillo convinced Lucas Oil Products to invest in short course off-road to give west coast racers a place to race. The opening rounds of the season were originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, March 14th and 15th, 2020 at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California. The series says the weeklong forecast leading into the weekend is filled with rain that will present an array of potential challenges in putting on the event. The series was forced to make a proactive cancellation in the best interest of all parties.

“This was not a decision that we came to lightly. We know that our competitors have put in months of preparation for this weekend, and we know our passionate fanbase has been eagerly awaiting the start of the 2020 season,” explained Ritchie Lewis, Director of Race Operations. “From the moment we became aware of the weather forecast and were subsequently forced to consider making such a difficult decision, we took every single element into consideration. Ultimately, the ability to host a successful event, both for our competitors and for our fans, was the driving force behind our decision. Given how persistent the precipitation is expected to be during the week of the race, it would present a significant challenge in getting the venue properly prepared for the weekend, and we believed it was in the best interest of the entire short course community to take a proactive approach to reschedule those rounds, with the intention of providing our competitors ample notice of the change.”

The Series is expected to continue racing Saturday April 25th and Sunday April 26th in Chandler, Arizona. Any presale tickets can be exchanged for another event within the series. The two rounds of missed racing will be made up at other events later in the season.

The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series has announced it is cancelling the upcoming Glen Helen Race this weekend and …

{
