I knew Toby was back there and would be coming so we hit the dirt running and put a few minutes on him.\u201d\r\n\r\nThe team of Bryce Menzies and Christopher Polvoorde were the top qualifiers for the event. The duo claimed the SCORE Baja 1000 win for the second year in a row. For Luke, the win is his third in a row. Starting second behind leader Bryce Menzies, it was a game of patience and smart driving. Late into the afternoon, the Menzies truck had a transmission failure. That immediately ended any hopes of winning the Baja 1000 for Menzies and his second driver Andy McMillin who is Luke\u2019s cousin. Behind Luke was his brother Dan. Both Trophy trucks held their positions well into the night finishing one and two on the podium. The event kicked off with a silent auction to raise money for the Hall of Fame. Board chairman Mark McMillin got the awards started with Bob Bower as the evenings host.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\" \"\" \"\" \"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nThis year\u2019s inductees have extensive backgrounds in motorsports. First up on the list was Randy Anderson. Anderson began his career working for Walker Evans building suspension parts. Lance Clifford, Yokohama\u2019s Vic Curl and Butch Dean also received their induction credentials and award. One of the inductees that is no longer with us is Mike Thomas. Luke McMillin was the top qualifier, started out front and had the lead the entire race. In the final 5 miles late into the evening there was a thick layer of dust hanging over the dry lake bed north of Primm. Rob MacCachren was just a minute behind Luke. As Luke dodged lap traffic he slowed for a 90 degree turn on the course. Rob MacCachren clipped Luke accidentally, causing Luke\u2019s truck to roll over at least four times. MacCachren immediately stopped to help and offered to roll Luke back over. The rescue team was seconds away. Luke yelled to MacCachren to go finish and win the race. Rob refused. Luke spent the next few minutes trying to convince Rob to go finish the Mint 400. Reluctantly, Rob headed towards the finish line. He was distraught and emotional as he arrived. Minutes later Luke arrived at the finish with Rob still apologizing. The two won the Baja 1000 together a couple weeks earlier. Luke McMillin teamed up with Rob MacCachren in the 4-Wheel Parts Trophy truck. The Super Team of Bryce Menzies and Andy McMillin also teamed up. Menzies was first off the line after winning the SCORE Baja 400. Menzies stayed out front with Luke just minutes behind most of the day. At the halfway point in the race Menzies turned the truck over to Andy. Just a mile down the road, the motor let go in a heartbreaking end to Menzies and Andy\u2019s run. MacCachren and Luke moved into the lead and never looked back. This is Luke\u2019s second consecutive win at the SCORE Baja 1000. The Super Team finished the grueling 1226-mile race in 20 hours 45 minutes and 59 seconds.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\n\u201cIt was a great day. Rob (MacCachren) brought me a great truck in second place. He got on the radio and told me it was a perfect truck so that put the pressure on me that it\u2019s go time. We did our homework, we did our pre-running. We hit our marks. Zero flat tires, zero close calls. The BFGoodrich Tires were unbelievable. We just stayed on the course and did our thing. We knew if we could just keep it up we would be in pretty good shape. And that is what happened today. Menzies started out front after qualifying a hundredth of second in front of Luke McMillin. Menzies was careful not to get any penalties, running the course in eight hours, twenty-six minutes, 59 seconds. Luke McMillin finished in second place, three minutes behind Menzies.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\n\u201cWe came away from San Felipe with a win and then we had some issues while we were leading the SCORE Baja 500.\u00a0 We have qualified both times this year and our game plan was to play it smart. We put a little gap on Luke (McMillin) and I just wanted to keep it there all day, but then towards the finish I started making small mistakes. I don\u2019t know what was going on; I just wasn\u2019t in it, and he started catching me. I actually got stuck in a really tight section and had to back up. When you back up a four-wheel drive vehicle, it only goes into two-wheel drive, so I almost got stuck and I started to panic.\u00a0 But my main man over here (navigator Willie Valdez Jr) called every single corner, every single note, really coaching me and helped me get to the finish line.\u00a0 This one was technical.
