The skies cleared, and the rain returned. That is the type of weekend racers had at the final Championship Off Road Race at the newest venue in the series- Mid America Outdoors. Located in Jay, Oklahoma, the track featured long sweeping turns and high banked elevation. Friday\u2019s practice and qualifying were rained out. Saturday, the track dried out enough to give racers a quick practice lap before racing began. Of course, being the final event weekend, championships were on the line. Saturday would be the only day for racing as another rainstorm rained out Sunday\u2019s event. That didn\u2019t stop the series from crowning champions.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nIn the Pro2 class, Cory Winner finally found redemption. In 2021, he missed the championship by a single point. He struggled again the following year. 2023 would finally be Winner\u2019s year. Consistent wins and podiums this season put Winner ahead of Mickey Thomas and Ryan Beat. When everything was fully tallied, Winner won the season championship by seventeen points. Ronnie Anderson came away with his first Championship Off Road win in Saturday\u2019s Pro-2 race.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nCJ Greaves won his eighth Pro4 championship. Seven season wins including Saturday\u2019s race at Mid America Outdoors, put CJ way out front in the points chase and almost untouchable. Even with a new truck, CJ quickly got into the groove with new set up to make it screaming fast.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nThe Pro Lite Championship always seems to come down to the last race. Kyle Greaves has been in the hunt. Trey Gibbs has also been right there to capitalize on every point possible. Kyle stayed consistent only missing two podiums the entire season. Even with Brody Eggleston\u2019s Saturday win, Greaves still came out on top in the final point standings.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nChad Rayford came out swinging in the Pro Spec class. Rayford spent the off-season changing an older Pro Lite truck into spec class rules, adding a new motor that fit the program. He went out got a podium the first weekend he hit the track. From there Rayford had consistent finishes throughout the season. Unfortunately, contact in Saturday\u2019s race kept him off the podium and gave Nick Visser a win. This is the first time that the Honda Talon gets the FOX live valve technology. The venue Honda selected for us was Mid-America Outdoors in Jay, Oklahoma. Mid-America Outdoors is a playground for off-road enthusiasts that spans over 1,600 acres. There are plenty of trail systems that cut through tight twisty wooded sections. Some of the trails have deep creeks. This was a perfect area to test the limits of Honda\u2019s Talon 1000R-4.\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rO9r78Hxka0\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nFOX Live Valve technology is exactly what it sounds like. The shocks are constantly adjusting to the terrain you are traveling on in real-time. The damping on the shocks are changing to provide you with a smooth ride. We noticed this right away as we moved through the wooded sections of Mid America Outdoors at speed. The Talon has 17.6 inches of travel in the front and 18.1 inches of travel in the rear. Typically, a four-seat side-by-side would not be the best choice for navigating tight, twisty turns in the woods. Our ride had no problems navigating around the obstacles. The steering received an upgrade to help with tight trails and corners as well as the design improved the turning radius.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nWe mentioned fording creeks on the Mid America Outdoors Trail System. As we sunk deeper into the water, almost up to the wheel wells, water began filling the floorboards. The ground clearance on the Talon 1000R-4 is 12.2 inches. Just a second or two after we emerged from the creek bed, the water flowed right out the bottom thanks to a smart built in drainage system. The same is true if you are washing the Talon and spray water in the interior. You won\u2019t have to deal with standing water in your side-by-side.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nAll four seats inside the Talon are comfy and designed with height in mind so each passenger and driver able to see the scenery around them. Even the kids would be able to have a great view. After all, driving a four-seat side-by-side means you take the family or a group of friends along for the ride.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nWhile the Honda Talon doesn\u2019t come with any turbocharged options, we still had enough power to climb the hills. One of the features we really liked on the Talon was the ability to click a switch and put it into manual mode. Paddle shifters smartly placed on the steering position allowed us to have control over the gearing at any angle we had the steering wheel. The powerplant features a 999-cc liquid cooled parallel twin engine that puts out 105 horsepower and 82 lb-ft of torque. Pair that with a six-speed dual clutch transmission.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nOverall, we give the Honda Talon 1000R-4 high marks. Visions was the second national event on the Ultra4 schedule and fourth event this year for series competitors to bank season points. Visions was important for racers because it paid double points. While the course was relatively short, racers had to contend with tight turns, large trees and muddy conditions for two hours plus one lap.\r\n\r\n\"\" \"\" \"\"\r\n\r\nPaul Wolff started on the pole position after Wednesday\u2019s qualifying session in the premiere 4400 class. When the green flag dropped, Wolff launched through the woods and never looked back. Less than halfway through the race, Wolff had already found himself picking his way through lap traffic. Wolff continued on a mission taking the checkered flag just two hours later followed by Brian Crofts and Vaughn Gittin Jr. Bad luck struck Loren Healy again. Healy bent a driveshaft going up a rock hill on the course ending his day.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nOver in the Everyman Challenge category, Jeremy Jones finished ahead of the pack in the 4800 legends class. Cody St Clair also finished in the top podium spot in the 4500 modified class. The 4600 stock vehicles ran Thursday afternoon at Visions.
