The rally covered almost 8,000 km of punishing desert terrain in Saudi Arabia, delivered heartbreak and triumph until the final kilometers of the rally. Heger dominated the class taking the early overall lead during the rally. Ricky Brabec started the day with a lead, but a late mistake allowed Benavides the victory. Driving for the Dacia Sandriders team which claimed its first overall Dakar win. Al-Attiyah maintained blazing consistency across two weeks of punishing speed sections, dunes, and rocky terrain. Al-Attiyah\u2019s penalty opened the door for Seth Quintero to get the stage win by a single second. Quintero now has two stage wins in the Dakar. The tightest race in Dakar history came down in the bike class. Kevin Benavides seized the lead over Toby Price by just 43 seconds. The race is tighter than ever in the bike class as the rally continued through the famous dunes of Saudi Arabia. Today was one of the longer stages in the rally with competitors logging 419 miles.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-6371\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Dakar2023Stage13_KevinBenavides-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/>\r\n\r\nRed Bull KTM rider Kevin Benavides claimed the Stage 13 win, Saturday. Benavides stopped to look after his teammate, Matthias Walkner who crashed hard. Officials gave Benavides the missed time back on his record. Walkner was airlifted to the hospital with pain in his lower back. Seconds separate Toby Price and Benavides in the overall rankings with just one stage to go before a winner of the rally is determined. Benavides says he likes these kinds of dunes. Skyler Howes who finished fourth, is back in the overall lead. At the very start of the stage Joan Barreda and Carlos Sainz both sustained some injuries. Barreda crashed in the dunes and had to be airlifted to a local hospital.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-6292\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/DakarRally2023Stage9_LucianoBenavides-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/>\r\n\r\nIn the bike class 13 seconds separate the overall riders. Skyler Howes who still sits up front finished third. Toby Price helped close the gap slightly with a second-place finish in Stage 9. Carlos Sainz rounded out the podium in third.
