The trucks are not full production trucks you can buy from the factory, merely concept vehicles by Nissan Design America.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4594\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/NissanChicagoAutoShow72XConcept-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/>\r\n\r\nProject 72X is a modern take on one of Nissan\u2019s most popular trucks, the Datsun 720. The 720 was introduced in the fall of 1979 and became the first vehicle assembled by Nissan in the United States, rolling off the Smyrna, Tennessee Vehicle Assembly Plant in 1983. The truck was nicknamed \u201cLil Hustler\u201d as it was a bare-bones affordable truck designed for fun and marketed towards outdoor enthusiasts. Of course, racers loved it, modifying it for off-road races across the United States and Baja. The 2022 concept version features Pro-4X tires, a lift kit and adjustable upper suspension arms along with the signature sport bar behind the cab.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4595\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/NissanChicagoAutoShowHardbody-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/>\r\n\r\nThe Project Hardbody pays homage to one of Nissan\u2019s most iconic trucks ever, the D21 Hardbody. These trucks were also found at various Baja races entered in Class 7. The Hardbody won multiple championships. You can still find some of the original models racing at vintage events such as the NORRA Rally. The Chicago Auto Show concept model is built on a 2022 Frontier Crew Cab 4x4. The Frontier is painted in the classic red, white and blue off-road racing colors of the 1980\u2019s. The retro livery is a throwback to the same colors iconic off-road champions ran on early Hardbody Nissan trucks.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3403\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Nissan-Rebelle-Rally-2021_Team-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/>\r\n\r\nRebelle Rally veterans Sedona Blinson and Lyn Woodward will campaign the 2022 Nissan Pro-4x under the team name \u201cWild Grace.\u201d In addition to the classic livery, the truck has been outfitted with NISMO 4-inch off-road lights, performance exhaust, a NISMO suspension kit and NISMO off-road AXIS wheels.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3404\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Nissan-Rebelle-Rally-2021_Side-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/>\r\n\r\n\"Nissan has been a staple of off-road endurance racing since the 1960s, and the Hardbody racers of the '80s remain some of the most successful and recognizable trucks ever,\" said Michael Soutter, vice president, Nissan Aftersales, Americas. \"We'll be rooting for Team Wild Grace at the 2021 Rebelle Rally, proving what the all-new Frontier and new NISMO Off Road parts can do over some of America's harshest landscapes. COVID restrictions in Baja Sur forced officials to keep the event in the northern half of Baja. Traditionally the rally goes all the way to San Jose Del Cabo. The events for the NORRA rally kicked off at the famous Horsepower Ranch just outside of Ensenada. Only participants of the rally were allowed on the property after passing strict COVID protocols.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2245\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/NORRA_Contingency-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/> <img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2246\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/NORRA_Horsepower-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>\r\n\r\nThe rally started in Santo Tomas and wound its way over the peninsula towards the fishing village of San Felipe. It was a mostly easy day for the participants. On the second day, the 243-mile course ended in Bahia De Los Angeles. The course will continue south near Guerrero Negro before heading back to Bahia De Los Angeles again. The course continues to north for another San Felipe finish. On the final day racers will end at Horsepower Ranch where an awards ceremony will be held.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2248\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/NORRA21_Nissan-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/> <img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2249\" src=\"https:\/\/dirtsportsworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/NORRA21_Macadu-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>\r\n\r\nThere are a number of vintage vehicles entered in the NORRA rally that help celebrate Baja\u2019s rich racing history. Mark McMillin is racing the famous \u201cMacadu\u201d buggy. Dana Dague\u2019s PalapaBoy racing team is racing a 1991 Nissan Hardbody pickup truck in memory of the late Spencer Low. Other vehicles include Schampa\u2019s Class 11 entry, and a few early Broncos.
