Tomac now commands the season points lead by five over Chase Sexton. With the series at the halfway point, Tomac is in good championship contention as long as he continues his consistency.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nIn the first 450 moto, it was Eli Tomac heading up the pack despite Joey Savatgy earning the holeshot. Tomac made quick work getting the lead, leaving the battles behind him. Sexton worked his way up to Tomac\u2019s rear tire, at one-point riding side-by-side. Sexton finally made a pass but quickly crashed on a downhill. Tomac regained the lead and never looked back. Sexton remounted and finished second with Jason Anderson third. In the second 450 moto, Savatgy again had the holeshot. Sexton and Ken Roczen battled for the other two positions. Both riders passed Savatgy to run first and second. Soon Tomac moved in for an easy pass on Roczen. The battle then focused on Sexton and Tomac. As time ticked away, Tomac made a clean move to gain the lead. Sexton kept the pressure on Tomac right through the checkered flag. Tomac had swept another weekend.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nIn the 250 class, it was no surprise that Jett Lawrence was out front battling with Justin Cooper. As the two attempted not to tangle into each other, Hunter Lawrence shot to the lead. Both brothers would battle right through lap traffic. Jett was back out front and kept his brother at bay with a Moto 1 victory. In Moto 2, both Lawrence brothers were back at it. A red flag would force a restart. This time Justin Cooper was out front. Jett soon made a pass for the lead. The track known for its sandy conditions is unique and challenging for motocross riders.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nIn the first 450 moto, Ken Roczen snagged the holeshot. Christian Craig chipped away at Roczen\u2019s lead and finally made pass for the front. Dungey was next up on Roczen. Roczen went down losing valuable positions. Tomac was quietly picking off riders and was sitting fourth. He moved in on Sexton and continued working his way to the front. Soon Tomac was in second and had his sights set on Craig. With fourteen minutes to go, Tomac seized his opportunity, taking the lead. Tomac had nearly four seconds on the rest of the field. Behind him, Craig and Sexton were locked in a battle for second. Tomac won the moto, Sexton took third and Craig finished third. In the second 450 moto, Roczen was back out front with the holeshot. This time a battle unfolded between Craig and Aaron Plessinger. Tomac again, sat quietly picking off riders making passes until he got behind Roczen. With 12 minutes to go, Tomac made a pass and again put a gap on the field. Tomac won again for a weekend sweep, Sexton took second and Plessinger ended third.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nIn the 250 class, Jett Lawrence was out front with the holeshot. At some point Lawrence crashed and lost the lead. Justin Cooper moved in for the position. Lawrence remounted and defended second. He went on the attack, passing Cooper after a mistake to regain the lead. Lawrence opened up a nice gap on the field. Jo Shimoda had made it to second and Cooper regained third after an intense battle with RJ Hampshire. In the second moto, Jett Lawrence repeated the holeshot. Levi Kitchen was close behind. Lawrence went wire to wire with Kitchen finishing second and Shimoda third. Ferrandis is nursing a thumb injury.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nFerrandis is expected to undergo surgery for a ligament tear in his left thumb according to a statement from the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team.\r\n\r\nFerrandis released the following statement: \u201cUnfortunately, I had a small crash Tuesday, and I hurt my left thumb. I thought it was a minor sprain, but the medical exam showed a broken ligament with the Stenner effect, which means it will never recover without surgery. I wanted to try to ride Saturday, but without surgery, in a few weeks, the ligament can die, and the damage can be irreversible. We decided with the team to go for the surgery now to have me back at my full physical capacity, but that means I will miss the beginning of the motocross season.\r\n\r\n\u201cNot being able to defend the championship that I won last year and put the No. 1 plate where it belongs, I am at the saddest point of my career.
