Honda Racing Corporation USA announced Tuesday that it will debut an all-new Honda Passport Baja Spec, a purpose-built Trophy Truck developed to compete in the premier class of the 2027 SCORE World Desert Championship. The 1,300-horsepower machine will be piloted by two-time Baja 1000 winner Bryce Menzies. The new truck represents one of Honda's most ambitious entries yet into four-wheel desert racing, combining technology and experience from across the company's global motorsports programs including Formula 1, IndyCar and IMSA with the brutal demands of SCORE's Baja racing.\r\n\r\nThe move puts Honda directly into the heavyweight battle of SCORE Trophy Truck racing. While the new Trophy Truck is a major step forward, Honda's connection to Baja racing stretches back more than six decades. In 1962, Honda dealers and desert-racing pioneers Dave Ekins and Bill Robertson Jr. rode a pair of Honda CL72 motorcycles from Tijuana to La Paz in just 39 hours and 56 minutes. The historic run helped establish a benchmark for Baja competition and preceded the creation of the first official Baja 1000 in 1967. Honda has since become the winningest motorcycle manufacturer in Baja history, with 22 overall victories along with numerous class wins. The vehicle was built by the Honda Performance Development Maxxis Rally team. The 2022 Passport made its debut during the Lake Superior Rally in Michigan on October 15th<\/sup>. The team is made up of Honda associates, mainly engineers.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nThe 2022 Passport uses several key components already found on the vehicle including the 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 9-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and the intelligent Variable Torque Management all-wheel-drive system. With existing components, engineers did not have to modify the suspension system for competition. They did an automatic transmission fluid cooler.\r\n\r\n\u201cThe fact that we didn\u2019t have to make any modifications to the 2022 Honda Passport\u2019s drivetrain or suspension for such punishing terrain and competition speaks volumes to the capability and performance that comes standard in the Passport,\u201d said Honda engineer and rally racer Chris Sladek.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nThe rally vehicle was also outfitted with racing seats, six-point harness, roll cage, fire suppression system and a rally computer along with in-car communications.
