Daniel Sanders who claimed the provisional overall lead after finishing solidly second on the stage, clawing back time and inheriting the top spot thanks to consistent pacing and resilience through the marathon. The Rally kicked off Friday with a Prologue. Competitors were right back on course on Saturday with the first official stage of the Rally, starting and finishing in Bisha. The top competitors in the Prologue were allowed to choose their starting positions.\r\n\r\n[caption id=\"attachment_11550\" align=\"alignnone\" width=\"640\"]\"\" Seth Quintero took the first Stage win of the Dakar Rally. Photo: ASO[\/caption]\r\n\r\nThe story of the day belongs to none other than American Seth Quintero. The 22-year-old had stopped to help a competitor and was scored in first place. Quintero is competing on the Toyota Gazoo Racing team. Coming in second, despite physically first on course was Guerlain Chicherit.\r\n\r\n[caption id=\"attachment_11552\" align=\"alignnone\" width=\"640\"]\"\" Daniel Sanders made a statement, winning the opening stage of the Dakar Rally. In the end it was Daniel Sanders on top of the podium followed by Ricky Brabec and Ross Branch.
