Just months after Luke McMillin and Rob MacCachren won the SCORE Baja 1000, Luke McMillin was back for another SCORE win to kick off the season in San Felipe. Bryce Menzies initially posted the fastest qualifying time, allowing him to start out front. Over one hundred miles into the race, Luke had physically taken the lead. When it came down to the finish, Luke finished three seconds ahead of Bryce for the win.
“It feels really, really good, we ran clean today, and had no issues at all. We just kept moving all day. We picked off Lofton (Justin, No. 41) going up north and then there was some back and forth with Bryce (Menzies, No. 7) on a couple of occasions. We passed them on the lake bed when they were changing a tire. We had a little hiccup on our pit and they got by us. We were 30 seconds behind him and we passed them as they pulled over. It was just cat and mouse,” said Luke.
In Class 1, Kyle Quinn and Ronny Wilson brought home the win. The young Christopher Polvoorde came away with a win in the spec truck class. This is Polvoorde’s first SCORE Baja win. He is coming off the momentum of winning in the class stateside at King of the Hammers two months ago.
“It’s my first SCORE San Felipe 250 and they were not lying about the whoops, those things are insane. I got some flats and had some issues with cactuses and had a little crash with another truck. It was an eventful day but luck was on our side today,” said Polvoorde.
