Two desert racing series have opted to postpone their race events due to a major cold storm that will hit the west starting Thursday. The storm is expected to close major interstates preventing travel to the events. The Best in the Desert Golden State 250 was originally set for this weekend in California City.
“BITD has been faced with another very difficult decision. This decision comes with much trepidation. BITD races rain, snow or shine. It does not matter. We are racers and racers race no matter what the conditions bring. This is how we were raised, and this is what we do. However, BITD spent the morning on the phones with the California Department of Transportation and they confirmed that there is a high probability that Interstate Highways will shut down due to snow and ice. Therefore, it is senseless to have a race that racers cannot get to safely. As such, we have made the very, very difficult decision to postpone the Golden State 250 and move the new race date to May 18-20,” said BITD CEO Bryan Folks.
MORE has also postponed the Slash X Duel in the Desert originally set for Barstow this weekend. The race will now be moved to March 4th.
