Argentinian Motorcycle Racer Dies in SCORE Baja 500 Pre-Run Accident

Twenty-Eight-year-old Juan Zunino from Mendoza, Argentina died in a motorcycle crash while pre-running for Baja. According to a press release from SCORE International, Zunino crashed around race mile 132 near Cohabuzo in the central part of Baja during a pre-run.

Volunteers at Baja Pits were alerted that Zunino had crashed by another racer. Baja Pits had a support location set-up just two miles from the crash site. Zunino suffered severe head trauma and pronounced deceased at the scene.

“This was a tragic accident that took the life of Juan Zunino” stated Abelardo Grijalva, SCORE President and Race Director. “The details of the incident are still being investigated but all of us at SCORE are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our racers.”

Zunino recently took a victory in his class at the San Felipe 250 in early April. He was entered in the Pro Moto Ironman class, riding solo for the 500. The crash is being investigated by Mexican authorities.
