Butch Dean passed away on Friday January 5th. Butch had been a fixture in the off-road industry for more than 50 years. In 1968 Butch opened a small off-road shop in Las Vegas that became known today as “Butch’s Speed Shop.” Mainly working with open wheel buggies, Butch sold parts that were found on some of the winningest vehicles.
Countless off-road racers such as BJ Baldwin, the Herbsts and others learned how to prep and better their vehicles from Butch’s knowledge. His sons Pat and JC became well known racers in several desert racing series. Butch would help racers build shocks, engines, transmissions and other suspension parts.
Butch was inducted into the Off-Road Hall of Fame in 2022.
