Champion Cooper Webb Wins First Supercross Race in 2020

Cooper Webb has the #1 plate on his KTM because he is the defending 2019 Supercross 450 champion. The problem is, Webb hasn’t won a race this season, until now. Webb was victorious at the latest round of Supercross racing in San Diego. Webb had an early lead at the beginning of the 450SX main event. Adam Cianciarulo was able to get to the front and pass Webb.

Cooper Webb was hot on Cianciarulo’s trail and made several attempts to regain the lead. Finally, on lap 21, Webb made a successful pass. The win puts Webb third in the championship points standings.

“I got into the lead early and then Adam made a good, aggressive move to the inside. I just kinda let him go. I knew the track was going to be hard to pass [on] and I knew it was going to be a long main event, so I was just kinda riding in there, tried to make a pass a few laps earlier but played cat and mouse which kinda allowed Blake to catch up, and I didn’t want to do that. Man, it feels good late in the race to get that pass and the win, first one of the season,” said Webb.

The 250SX main did not disappoint again. Austin Forkner had the holeshot. He got passed but regained the lead on lap 5. With just over a minute to go in the main event, Dylan Ferrandis made a major move, diving to the inside of Forkner for the lead. Forkner temporarily went off track but was able to keep control for a second-place finish. Ferrandis grabbed the win and added more points to the board in the championship standings.

One point separates Ken Roczen and Eli Tomac in the 450SX championship standings. More exciting Supercross racing is expected in round 7 in Tampa, Florida.
