Spectator Killed at Tatts Finke Desert Race

A spectator was killed at the Tatts Finke Desert Race in Australia on Sunday.  According to Sky News, one man died, and two others were injured after a car struck a group of people 22 miles from the finish line. A 60-year old man died at the scene. Another man in his 50’s was taken to Alice Springs Hospital.

The female driver of the car suffered minor injuries according to Northern Territory Police. Local authorities are investigating the tragic accident.

Motorsport Australia issued a statement offering sympathy to family, friends and all those impacted.

The following was posted to the Tatts Finke Facebook page: Together with all event parties, Motorsport Australia and Finke Desert Race are undertaking an investigation into the incident and will assist and cooperate with all relevant authorities with their respective investigations.

Motorsport Australia and the Finke Desert Race Committee is also providing ongoing support and assistance to all competitors, officials and those associated with the event.
