Off-Road Icon John Marking Passes Away

The off-road world has lost another industry great. John Marking passed away at his home near San Diego, California on Sunday morning.

Marking started his career at in 1988 Jimco Racing Products while enrolling in the engineering program at San Diego State University. He began rebuilding and modifying shock absorbers which landed him at Fox racing shox. Over the next 28 years Marking became the go-to guy for suspension. He helped redesign shock absorbers for larger vehicles, opening the door for Ford, Jeep and a host of others to offer high-performance off-road vehicles to new enthusiasts. Marking has patents in the US and Europe.

A statement on his Facebook page read the following: “It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Vincent Marking, loving husband, father and friend. He went peacefully early this morning in the comfort of his home.”

Marking was inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame this year. A celebration of life will be planned in early 2022.
