Mitch Guthrie Jr is cancelling his Dakar race plans after testing positive for COVID-19. Guthrie was set to race with the Red Bull Junior team.
He posted the following to Facebook: Absolutely heartbroken. I will not be able to compete in this years @dakarrally due to a positive Covid test. I feel 100% fine and have been quarantined since my test praying there is someway to race but here we are. Really no words, just bummed to be in this situation but it is what it is and there is nothing I can do about it. I want to wish my amazing @redbulloffroadjuniorteam teammates an amazing race as well as @amikkelsenrally who will be taking my place alongside @olafloene Thank you so much to our entire team for all of the hard work to get us here and I know this year it is going to pay off! Go team!
All competitors are required to provide a negative PCR test per the ASO COVID policy. Competitors had to test negative before even entering Saudi Arabia. Guthrie is quarantined and feeling fine with no symptoms.
