1600 Class Buggies Wage War in the Desert

It was probably the largest field of 1600 class buggies any race has seen in quite some time. Some 40 plus cars were entered in the M.O.R.E PCI 300 held on Saturday in Lucerne Valley. A Friday evening qualifying session was held with Richard Woods in the 1698 as the top qualifier in the Sweet 16 Shootout. Racers were vying for a variety of prizes including a $60,000 total purse.

The buggies shot off the start line in groups of three early at 7am just as the sun began rising. Cole Hardin in the 1679 had the lead for all five laps. Unfortunately, on the final lap Hardin rolled the car in a whoops section. He and his co-driver would be ok. Mike Malloy in the 1644 went on to take home the race win and an $18,000 check.
