Dakar Rally Stage 3: Rain Causes Problems; Brabec Hospitalized

Torrential weather was the issue of the day during Stage 3 of the Dakar Rally. Through the majestic canyons and sandy tracks, competitors were faced with the challenge of navigating criss-crossing tracks and trying not to get confused. Finally, as the rains got heavier, the Stage was shortened to 234-miles.

2020 Champion Ricky Brabec had a bad crash and was airlifted to a local hospital. Brabec is complaining of neck pain. Meantime, Australian Red Bull GasGas factory rider Daniel Sanders claimed the Stage 3 win with Skyler Howes taking second. Sanders leads the points rankings.

In the car class, Guerlain Chicherit came away with the stage win. Several drivers spent the day digging out after getting stuck in the sand. Of course, the torrential rains didn’t help anyone. Hank Lategan finished second for Toyota Gazoo Racing. Nasser Al-Attiyah leads the overall rankings.

In the T3 class, Austin Jones conquered the course after rally leader Chaleco Lopez got stuck In a rushing creek and had to be rescued by the top two truck class drivers. Seth Quintero still holds onto the lead in the overall rankings.
