Dakar Rally Stage 11: Marathon Leg

Stage 11 for the Dakar competitors was the long-awaited marathon leg. It was also known as the “Empty Quarter Marathon.” Competitors will camp on their own without assistance teams and the comforts of the bivouac. The course, 170 miles through the Empty Quarter dunes.

Taming the dunes during Stage 11 was Luciano Benavides who notched another win. Benavides says he likes these kinds of dunes. Skyler Howes who finished fourth, is back in the overall lead. Toby Price sits second.

In the car class, Sebastien Loeb also added another Dakar stage win to his list. Still not enough to knock Nasser Al-Attiyah of his pedestal. Al-Attiyah finished 5th.

In the T3 class, Ricardo Porem came away with a stage win. Austin Jones moves into the overall lead with Seth Quintero knocking at his doorstep. Guillaume De Mevius struggled with engine issues, at one point down for over 90 minutes.
