Injury Causes Heartbreaking End to Eli Tomac’s Championship Run

Eli Tomac’s chase for the Supercross Championship has come to a heartbreaking end. With just one final round to go, Tomac will not be lining up at the starting gate in Utah on Saturday. The points leader came off a jump and seriously injured his Achilles tendon at the race in Denver. Tomac went straight to the medical center at the track and later had his injury looked at by professionals.

Tomac was leading in the points and only had to finish 20th or better to lock up the Supercross Championship in the final round. Cooper Webb just a couple weeks ago also suffered an injury that ended his season. Now it’s up to Chase Sexton to bring the championship home for his team.

“I am basically at a loss for words for what happened and how it happened,” said Tomac in a video posted to social media. He also said he is not sure what is in his future for racing, leaving doubt that he could return after recovering from his injury.
