Three-peat for Polvoorde at King of the Hammers Desert Race

The 2026 Unlimited Desert Challenge came in hot and unforgiving over the weekend in Johnson Valley. Unlike the brutal rock trails that define the main Ultra4 race, the Desert Challenge is all about momentum, navigation, and mechanical trust. Long lake beds, silty washes, and hidden square edges punished hesitation and equipment. From the green flag, it was clear survival would matter just as much as speed.

For the third year in a row, Christopher Polvoorde came out on-top and unscathed from the mayhem of the race. Polvoorde qualified second just a day before Sunday’s Unlimited Race. When the race started, it wouldn’t be long before the course quickly started collecting victims, causing front-runners into roadside repairs. Polvoorde pushed on for the win. Finishing behind Polvoorde was Chris Hertsch and Brett Sourapas.
