Justin Hill got the 2026 FIM World Supercross Championship off to a strong start Saturday night in Calgary, taking the SX1 Sprint Race 1 victory at McMahon Stadium during the opening round of the season. Hill, aboard the Rick Ware Racing Yamaha, put together a strong eight-lap performance to claim the first SX1 race win of the new World Supercross season. Cooper Webb, making his full-season WSX debut with Rick Ware Racing, finished second, while Calgary local Dean Wilson rounded out the top three for Quad Lock Honda.
The opening race was not without drama. Defending WSX champion Jason Anderson crashed on the opening lap, forcing him to fight his way back through the field. Anderson ultimately finished outside the top five, leaving him with a difficult start to his title defense.
The results from the opening sprint set the stage for the second SX1 race of the night, where Webb would answer back with a victory of his own. Webb ultimately claimed the Canadian GP overall after the scheduled Main Event was stopped by severe weather and could not be completed. Wilson finished second overall, with Hill third. In the SX2 division, defending champion Max Anstie also began his title defense in winning fashion, taking the first of three race victories on his way to the overall victory.
The 2026 World Supercross Championship now moves toward Round 2, the British GP at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on October 10.
