Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing and Yamaha Motor USA have announced that they will not participate in the 2026 Motocross of Nations, scheduled for October 2-4 in Ernée, France. The decision means Yamaha will not make any of its 250 or 450 riders available for Team USA, eliminating potential selections such as Haiden Deegan and Justin Cooper from consideration.
Yamaha cited the demanding SMX schedule, rider and team recovery, and the significant logistical challenges and costs associated with sending a U.S.-based factory operation to Europe. The team also noted the expense of shipping motorcycles and converting them to meet FIM specifications.
“We’re choosing to prioritize the health and safety of our riders,” said Yamaha Racing Manager Jim Roach. “When you factor in the logistical challenges and costs of shipping and converting bikes to FIM spec, the team respectfully wants to stay focused on its continued preparation for the upcoming 2027 SMX season.”
The withdrawal is a significant blow to Team USA, with Deegan and Cooper both having been considered potential members of the American squad. Team USA’s final lineup is expected to be announced following the Pro Motocross finale at Ironman Raceway.
