COPS Racing’s John Langley Passes Away

COPS television show creator and race team owner John Langley passed away Saturday. Langley and his COPS racing team were racing the RECORD Off-Road Series in Baja when he reportedly passed away from a heart attack.

Langley created the long running reality television show COPS in the 1980’s after working on a documentary called “Cocaine Blues” that focused on DEA agents working the drug trade. He got into off-road racing in 2008 with his sons Morgan and Zak Langley.

John’s neighbor built a race car for the Baja 1000 and invited him to come down with the team. John was hooked. Over the years the team has raced many different classes. Last year, John Langley had a new ES Motorsports trophy truck built.

John Langley was 78 years old.
