It was a tale of ups and downs for Stage Five of the Dakar Rally. Competitors traveled three hundred, forty-seven miles around the capital city of Riyadh. Henk Lategan claimed a stage win for Toyota Gazoo Racing. Sébastien Loeb finished second, slowly chipping away at Nasser Al-Attiyah’s overall lead. The Frenchman now sits within a three-minute striking distance of the overall.
Red Bull Junior Team driver Seth Quintero continued with another win. Quintero has five out of six wins in the Dakar Rally.
Red Bull KTM rider Danilo Petrucci won his first ever Dakar Rally competition in the bike class. At the end of the stage Skyler Howes suffered a crash. Howes completed the special, then went to hospital for medical checks. Howes has been forced to withdraw from the rally.
