All Hail to the New King: Raul Gomez Wins King of the Hammers

There is a new king in town. After years of trying and finishing within striking distance of the top spot on the podium, Raul Gomez finally earned his crown, winning the 2022 King of the Hammers race.

Gomez finished ahead of Jason Scherer who was originally in the lead by the second lap. A mistake in the rock section of Outer Limits cost Scherer valuable time. Bryan Crofts was the top qualifier starting next to Scherer. Gomez started fifth. Gomez was in a brand new car for 2022.

“My crew killed it. We put this car in the lake bed on Tuesday. We got about an hour with it, yet here we are,” said Gomez.

In the fourteen-year history of King of the Hammers, Gomez becomes the eighth driver to join the super-elite “King” club.
