Yamaha is reportedly preparing to end in-house production of its side-by-side lineup in the United States, marking a major shift for the company after more than two decades in the off-road vehicle market. The move comes as Yamaha continues to streamline its powersports business following the discontinuation of the YXZ1000R sport side-by-side and its exit from the snowmobile market.
For years, Yamaha’s side-by-side models, including the Wolverine, Viking, and YXZ families, have been assembled at the company’s manufacturing facility in Newnan, Georgia. As recently as the introduction of its 2026 lineup, Yamaha emphasized that its vehicles were built in the United States for global distribution.
The biggest sign of the company’s changing strategy came with the retirement of the YXZ1000R, the only sport side-by-side on the market equipped with a manual transmission. Yamaha officials said the company would instead focus on its remaining utility and recreation models, including the Wolverine and Viking platforms.
Although Yamaha has not publicly outlined the full details of its long-term manufacturing plans, the decision reflects broader changes within the powersports industry as manufacturers respond to rising costs, shifting consumer demand, and increased competition in the off-road market.
